When reporting a problem, include your iPhone model, iOS version, Romaji version, and what happened. A screenshot helps; leave out any private text.
How do I get a reading?
Paste or type Japanese into the home screen, then tap “Show reading.” You can also start with one of the built-in examples. Choose romaji, furigana, or both to suit how you read.
Does Romaji translate?
Romaji shows how Japanese is read. It does not translate the meaning into another language.
Why is a reading wrong?
Japanese characters can have several readings, and names are especially difficult. Romaji combines a bundled dictionary with Apple’s Japanese text analysis, so it can sometimes choose the wrong reading.
Email the original text, the reading shown, and the expected reading if you know it. Only include text you are comfortable sharing.
How do I copy a word or passage?
Tap a Japanese word or its romaji to inspect it and copy its reading. The reader’s menu includes options to copy Japanese, copy the reading, copy all, or share. Settings lets you choose the copy format.
How do I remove history?
Open your recent readings from the home screen. Swipe an entry to remove it, or open History and use the clear action to remove all entries.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Readings are generated on your device. Opening external links or sending a support email requires an internet connection. Learn more in our privacy policy.
Can I change the appearance?
In Settings, choose System, Light, or Dark appearance. You can also choose an alternative app icon and adjust the romaji spelling style.
